In this professional development course, you will discover a teaching approach that is current, challenging, and caters to the safe training of dancers when learning advanced movements in the contemporary dance genre. You will leave with a fully devised practice that you can apply directly to your classes in full, or in sections, depending on your students’ needs.

The Push & Pull method for contemporary dance technique provides a repertoire of skills to learn, combine, and add to in the dance classroom. It focusses on:

  • Understanding transitions by applying a push and pull framework

  • Applying texture

  • Contemporary dance floor work skills

  • Spiralling standing skills

Push & Pull is comprised of:

  • 4 key sections (Floor Preparations, Slides & Scoots, Middle Ground, Spiral Series)

  • Buildable skills for building understanding

  • Floor to standing progression

  • Creative technique tasking options

Taught over two days, this course is:

  • Highly practice based

  • Collaborative

  • Open to all skill levels

The goal of this professional development course is to provide dance teachers with an updated repertoire of movement and the knowledge of how to teach skills safely, effectively, and creatively. The Push & Pull framework as a teaching approach can be further applied beyond the provided structure as a way of developing dancers’ understanding of transitions, textures and mechanics of breaking down and performing movements, exercises, and choreography.
